Toyota recalls 1.7M vehicles to fix air bags

Toyota Wants 1.7 Million Vehicles Back Because Airbags Are ‘Potentially Deadly’

Twenty-three people have died worldwide due to airbag inflator problems.

The recall also covers the 2010 to 2012 ES 350, the 2010 to 2017 GX 460, the 2010 to 2015 IS 250C and 350C, the 2010 to 2013 IS 250 as well as the 350, and the 2010 to 2014 IS-F.

The recall involves Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles manufactured between 2003 and 2013 that are equipped with Takata front passenger airbag inflators. Also included is the Scion XB, 2010 through 2015. Last week Ford announced that almost one million of its vehicles were being recalled for the same airbag issue. Previously, 37 million United States vehicles with 50 million inflators were recalled and 16.7 million inflators remain to be replaced.

To see if your vehicle has been recalled, head to https://www.toyota.com/recall or https://www.airbagrecall.com and enter your license plate or vehicle identification number.

Affected airbags were made with the chemical ammonium nitrate and the airbags were prone to exploding once deployed.

Takata inflators can explode with too much force and hurl shrapnel into drivers and passengers.

DR Congo opposition candidate Fayulu says results 'not negotiable'
"We have also noted that this results have been contested by a part of the opposition", said spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic. The mineral-rich country has never had a peaceful transition of power since it gained independence from Belgium in 1960.

The most risky inflators are in areas of the South along the Gulf of Mexico that have high humidity. Owners of vehicles that are involved in the recall will receive a direct notification in late January.

Dealerships will replace either the airbag inflators or entire airbag systems.

The recalls forced Takata of Japan to seek bankruptcy protection and sell most of its assets to pay for the fixes. Ford and Honda have already announced recalls.

The Takata airbag recall has impacted most auto manufacturers around the world.

They cover 37 million vehicles and about 50 million inflators in the US.
