O2 shop sign in central London

Thousands of O2 customers in Northern Ireland have been left without data on Thursday morning due to a technical issue.

Users of O2 services, who were unable to access the internet or apps that require an internet connection, poured onto social media to complain about the outage.

The network also provides services to Sky, Tesco, Giffgaff and Lycamobile networks.

"We are aware our customers are unable to use data this morning", the company said on its official Twitter account. "We fully appreciate it's been a poor experience and we are really sorry".

Angus Council say its meters have been affected by a network problem affecting all of the UK.

The company said one of their third party suppliers had identfied a software issue in their system. They're now working hard to resolve the issue so we would imagine it won't be too long before its back up.

O2 customers are struggling to access the internet and other services after a massive data failure this morning.

"One customer said: "@O2 what if people don't have access to WiFi.I think you need to at least knock some money off everyone's next bill or offer some kind of gesture, it's been almost 12 hours now what if it never gets fixed what do we do then? "This issue is being investigated".

The Financial Times said the O2 outage was related to an issue with software provided by Ericsson.

O2 have assured customers that they are working as hard as possible to get the networks up and running as soon as possible.
