'Team player' Brett Kavanaugh sworn in again as US Supreme Court Justice

U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Brett Kavanaugh and family participate in his ceremonial public swearing-in in Washington

On Monday evening Kavanaugh, 53, joined family members, friends and President Trump at the White House for a ceremonial swearing-in ceremony, where the new justice tried to ease the partisan wounds from his confirmation process.

Three days after being confirmed to the US Supreme Court despite being accused of sexual assault, Justice Brett Kavanaugh took his seat on the bench on Tuesday alongside his eight new colleagues, cementing a conservative majority for years to come.

After Judge Kavanaugh had placed his hand on a bible and sworn to perform his duties to the best of his ability, President Trump said: "On behalf of our nation I want to apologise to Brett and the entire Kavanaugh family for the bad pain and suffering you have been forced to endure".

Trump showed he still considers the nomination row a political battle.

President Barack Obama's two Supreme Court appointees, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, didn't participate in oath ceremonies at the White House.

With police standing by, a handful of protesters gathered outside the Supreme Court building, holding signs saying "Shame" and "He sits on a throne of lies", while chanting, "This isn't over, we're still here". And I will always be a team player on the team of nine. Throughout his exceptionally turbulent confirmation process, Kavanaugh touted his long history of empowering women in the workplace, pointing out how he's actually practiced what so many others preach. "That process is over", he said.

Mr Trump has now put his stamp on the court with his second justice in as many years.

Kavanaugh knows numerous justices, who all showed up at the White House Monday night.

Kanye West to lunch with Trump at White House on Thursday
Two months later she said: 'I have nothing bad to say about the president'. "This represents to me [is], y'all can't bully me". Her Warden, Case Manager, and Vocational Training Instructor have all written letters in support of her clemency".

People hoping to see Justice Brett Kavanaugh's first day on the Supreme Court bench are waiting in long lines outside the court.

Clinton also criticized Trump for mocking Christine Blasey Ford, the first woman to publicly accuse Kavanaugh of sexual assault, on the eve of the Senate's confirmation vote.

No concrete evidence was produced to back up the searing accusations, which Republicans described as a dirty tricks campaign.

Kavanaugh was "caught up in a hoax that was set up by the Democrats", Trump said as he left the White House for a trip to Florida.

Kavanaugh officially took up his new role on Saturday, following a private swearing in ceremony.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit has received complaints about Brett Kavanaugh's statements during hearings on his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court, according to a statement Saturday by a judge on the federal appeals court. "We stood up to the mob", he said.

Now McConnell is singing a different tune, but he says he isn't ignoring precedent, because in 2020, Republicans will, most likely, have control of the Senate and the White House. By the way, given the volume and shrillness of anti-Kavanaugh protests - from his original hearings all the way through to his delayed confirmation - this is an interesting detail, isn't it? "But the Senate having failed to do its proper, constitutionally mandated job of advise and consent, we are going to have to do something to provide a check and balance, to protect the rule of law and to protect the legitimacy of one of our most important institutions".
