Murkowski to vote 'present' on Kavanaugh

Ford’s own team kills liberal narrative Alleged attack did not happen

Murkowski and Manchin were two of the final holdouts on how they would vote on Kavanaugh's confirmation, along with Republican Sens.

And in a statement issued soon after Collins spoke, Manchin explained he was supporting Kavanaugh notwithstanding the "serious accusations" leveled against the judge and lingering questions about Kavanaugh's temperament.

With support from Flake, Collins and Manchin, Kavanaugh has secured the majority necessary to be confirmed to the Supreme Court.

Democrats said the allegations were credible and deserved a full investigation, while Republicans accused Democrats of using uncorroborated allegations to scuttle or delay the nomination - leading to a stream of angry flashpoints between lawmakers.

They wouldn't have let Dr. Ford's good friend Monica McLean pressure Leland Keyser, another long-time friend of Dr. Ford's - who, despite Dr. Ford's including her in a list of witnesses to Dr. Ford's account, said she had no recollection of the party and had never before even met Kavanaugh - to change her story.

With Collins and Manchin publicly on board, Kavanaugh had the votes Friday evening to be confirmed to the high court.

President Donald Trump at a Kansas rally celebrated the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court, condemning Democrats for what he called a "shameless campaign of political and personal destruction" against his nominee.

Liverpool's Jurgen Klopp: Nations League a 'senseless' competition
Arsenal , meanwhile, won their ninth consecutive game in all competitions on Sunday, thrashing Fulham 5-1 at Craven Cottage. I don't think they'll be challenging for the title, ' the former Manchester United and England defender told Sky Sports .

"I have no doubt", Trump said, telling reporters that he had chosen Kavanaugh, in part, because "there's nobody with a squeaky-clean past like Brett Kavanaugh". "It's just not worth it". The allegation threw his confirmation process into a tailspin for weeks, but it appears back on track now after a 51-49 vote to move past a key procedural step and three key senators saying they'll vote "yes" in the final confirmation vote Saturday. Manchin spent the rest of the floor vote sitting alone, apart from his colleagues on the Democratic side of the Senate chamber. Flake is one of a handful of senators whose votes in the closely divided Senate could tip the nomination either way.

Ramirez says in a statement released by her lawyers that the Federal Bureau of Investigation refused to speak to witnesses who could corroborate her story. That's not conclusive evidence of what they will do on Saturday, but it sure looks better for Kavanaugh's chances than if they had voted against ending debate on the nomination.

Mr Trump praised the Senate, tweeting: "Very proud of the U.S. Senate for voting "YES" to advance the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh!". Kirsten Gillibrand, one of the Democrats who take to the Senate floor early Saturday to rail against Kavanaugh.

"I don't think she has any regrets". "Both oaths will be administered so that [Kavanaugh] can begin to participate in the work of the Court immediately", the court said in a statement prior to the swearing in.

Those two votes would put the vote count on Kavanaugh's confirmation at 49-49, meaning Republicans would need one more "yes" vote to put Kavanaugh on the Court.

Still, she sent signals that Kavanaugh had cleared a hurdle by reassuring her that he believed the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision on abortion rights is settled law.

Ford, a California psychology professor, accused Kavanaugh of holding her down, trying to disrobe her, and covering her mouth to keep her from screaming during a house party in high school. Susan Collins, the key swing vote in this confirmation process. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, called the 53-year-old Kavanaugh a victim of "an ugly left-wing smear campaign" and charged Democrats with character assassination. By the time Friday morning arrived, barricades had been erected around the Capitol building, but that did little to dissuade some determined demonstrators from hefting signs and raising their voices against Kavanaugh's bid to replace retired Justice Anthony Kennedy.
