Facebook discloses network breach affecting 50 million user accounts

Facebook has announced that some 50 million accounts have been impacted by a major security breachMore

The company announced that nearly 50 million of its users were left exposed by a security flaw which is due to a feature known as "View As".

The company wrote that they already fixed the coding issue and alerted law enforcement.

Our investigation is still in its early stages. Facebook said the stolen access tokens were digital keys that allowed people to stay logged in to Facebook. In case you are unaware, the "View As" feature allows Facebook users to see what their profile looks like to others - this includes both their friends and non-friends.

"We also do a pre-emptive move to update the access tokens even for the 40 million accounts that were viewed via the "View as" over the a year ago".

On Friday September 28, 2018 most Facebook users were logged out. Users who have been affected by the breach will have to log back into their Facebook account, and the company said that it would post a note atop of their newsfeed explaining the situation.

It has also yet to be determined whether these accounts were misused or if any information was accessed.

Metro Boomin, Swizz Beatz and more are on production. "We know it will come in number 2 to my brother Lil Wayne and that's lovely".

Facebook said it does not know who is behind this massive security attack. The "View As" feature has also been turned off temporarily, they said.

Rosen said, as a result of the precautionary steps, roughly 90 million people will have to log back in to Facebook and any apps that use their Facebook login.

The access tokens for the 50 million accounts the company knows were affected have been reset.

This vulnerability allowed attackers to steal access tokens of users which would then allow them to take over the accounts of other users.

We'll update this post as we get more information, but in the meantime it's probably a good idea to change your Facebook password and check your security settings just in case. However, Facebook assures there is no need for anyone to change their password.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said they're working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, following the data security incident. Hackers are believed to have taken advantage of vulnerabilities in the code for Facebook's "View As" feature.
