Tesla rocked by executive departures, Musk web show

Tesla founder Elon Musk smoking marijuana while recording a podcast

San Francisco: The turmoil at Tesla Inc. reached a fever pitch on Friday, as news emerged that two senior executives will leave Elon Musk's electric vehicle maker a matter of hours after he smoked marijuana during an hours-long interview with a comedian. Rogan told Musk it was a mix of tobacco and marijuana.

Musk appeared on the "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast.

After asking whether it was legal, Musk then took the joint and smoked it himself on camera.

Tesla's stock and bond prices dropped on Wednesday - linked to the row over Musk's comments about Mr Unsworth but also following an unveiling by Mercedes that presents a challenge to the electric vehicle maker. "I mean it's legal, right?" asked Musk.

The vehicle company has struggled to scale up production of its Model 3 sedan, which has been hit by a number of delays, intensifying the pressure on Musk.

Many of Musk's Twitter followers questioned if smoking marijuana was against the company's policy, while others mocked the CEO's initial $420 bid, a number that has become code for marijuana.

"It's like a cup of coffee in reverse", Musk explained. His first day, August 6, was two days before CEO Elon Musk's now-infamous tweet about taking Tesla private that has ended in lawsuits and investigations by federal regulators.

"I'm not a regular smoker of weed; nearly never", Musk said.

Musk covered topics in the interview ranging Tesla and SpaceX to what he perceives are the dangers of artificial intelligence.
