GOP Sen. Corker: Putin 'having caviar' after Trump meeting

U.S. President Donald Trump speaks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during a press conference after their meeting at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki Finland Monday

Democrats pleaded with their GOP colleagues who have majority control of Congress to rein in the president and become a stronger legislative check on the executive branch.

"Trump instead accepted Putin's denials and cast doubt on the conclusions of our intelligence community", Sanders wrote on Twitter as the White House lauded the Finland summit as "constructive". Browder also explained why President Trump was the "big loser" of the Russian Federation summit. "We do host it, and we hope we do as good a job".

"I get the feeling, I've seen it first-hand actually, sometimes the president cares more about how a leader treats him personally than forcefully getting out there and pushing against things that we know have harmed our nation", Corker said.

Republicans said Trump's performance was "shameful", "an absolute disgrace", and "moronic".

"The Russians are not our friends and I entirely believe the assessment of our intelligence community".

"I have great confidence in my intelligence people".

The second-ranking Republican, Sen. Putin declined to take the copy from Wallace, and the two men repeatedly talked over one another as the Russian president sought to rebuke the U.S. intelligence community's widespread assessment that Moscow interfered in the 2016 election with the aim of boosting Trump and damaging Hillary Clinton's candidacy. "Russian Federation attempted to undermine the fundamentals of our democracy, impugn the reliability of the 2016 election, and sow the seeds of discord among Americans", Gowdy said in a statement. Instead, he directed his ire at Democrats and USA officials, calling special counsel Robert Mueller's probe of Russian Federation a "disaster".

"That will go to my son Barron, we have no question".

The summit caps a trip overseas during which Trump accused North Atlantic Treaty Organisation allies of failing to spend enough on their militaries and embarrassed British Prime Minister Theresa May by saying she refused to take his advice about how to negotiate Britain's exit from the EU.

Off Capitol Hill, former intelligence chiefs who served under President Barack Obama were scathing in their criticism. Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, a Trump ally whose wife serves as Trump's ambassador to the Vatican, called Trump's stance "the most serious mistake of his presidency."

"Donald Trump's press conference performance in Helsinki rises to & exceeds the threshold of 'high crimes & misdemeanors.' It was nothing short of treasonous". Republican Patriots: Where are you???'

Trump on a Democratic National Committee server: "You have groups that are wondering why the Federal Bureau of Investigation never took the server". "President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today".

Putin said both countries considered it "necessary" to further work together on many issues, including extension of the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, the risky situation surrounding the development of elements of the global system of American missile defense, and the implementation of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles as well as avoiding weapons being placed in space.

One of the toughest responses came from Sen. Russian Federation is our adversary. "This isn't a president who seems to want to shy away from any of that, though, " replied Fox's Harris Faulkner. "It's Trump derangement syndrome".

But another Republican, Sen.
