Schumer Calls On Trump To Cancel Putin Summit After Russian Indictments

Trump Seemed To Exhibit Multiple Personalities At NATO Summit

Twelve Russian military intelligence officers hacked into the Clinton presidential campaign and Democratic Party, releasing tens of thousands of stolen communications, in a sweeping effort by a foreign government to meddle in the 2016 US election, according to a grand jury indictment announced days before President Donald Trump's summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders are scheduled to meet in the capital of Finland on Monday to discuss bilateral relations as well as a range of worldwide issues including Ukraine, Syria and Moscow's alleged interference in the US elections, according to media reports.

"Putin dispatched Russian special forces to Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in February 2014, after protesters in Kyiv forced the downfall of corrupt Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, a Kremlin client".

This is bone-chilling. American voters were personally attacked and so far the president has not cared. For the Russian president, however, the fact the summit is even happening is already a big geopolitical win.

After the indictments were announced, Democrats were quick to urge Trump to cancel the meeting.

He downplayed the Helsinki summit, saying: "I think we go into that meeting not looking for so much". Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said in a statement that "all patriotic Americans" should know Putin is not "the President's buddy".

The Russian intelligence officers are accused of hacking into the computer networks of the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign and then releasing stolen emails on the internet in the months before the election.

And it stands in stark contrast to how the president has talked about America's allies during his ongoing worldwide trip.

Trump's pomp-filled visit to the United Kingdom has been overshadowed by massive protests and an explosive interview in The Sun in which he blasted May, blamed London's mayor for terror attacks against the city and argued that Europe was "losing its culture" because of immigration.

In recent days, most Republicans have had a cautious attitude toward the highly-anticipated meeting.

He said decades of dealing with the weight of his nails has left his hand permanently unable to open or move his fingers. The 82-year-old Chillal started growing his nails in 1952, when he was 14.

The president said he wanted to develop a relationship with Putin, which he said would be "good for Russian Federation, good for everybody". Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said on the Senate floor Thursday. I guess, ya, let's see, he loves Russian Federation. We'll be talking about Syria. "Glad-handing with Vladimir Putin on the heels of these indictments would be an insult to our democracy".

In the same press conference, Trump also said "I hope that we're going to be able to get along with Russian Federation", "maybe we'll get along with the group that we're protecting against" (a reference to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation and Russia), "I hope that we'll be able to get along" (referring to him and Putin), and "I hope we get along well with Iraq".

"Will we be talking about meddling?"

The Kremlin has denied that the Russian state interfered in the USA election. "And he replied 'Because of the Mueller investigation.' No Mr. President, the reason why relations with Russian Federation are hard is because Russian Federation and its agents interfered dramatically in the 2016 elections".

Trump begrudgingly signed the bipartisan bill and claimed multiple aspects of the legislation violated the Constitution. But we'll also be talking about other things. Pure stupidity. But it makes it very hard to do something with Russian Federation.

President Donald J. Trump speaks during a press conference on the second day of the NATO Summit in Brussels, July 12, 2018.

Rosenstein said the president had been briefed on the charges earlier this week.

"It is up to President Trump to hold Putin accountable for his actions during the meeting in Helsinki", McCain said in a statement.

"Putin is not our friend nor merely a competitor", McCain said via Twitter.

Asked when exactly the allies would now reach their 2 per cent of GDP target, Trump said it would over the coming years. "He must show that he can be strong and tough with Vladimir Putin-not for its own sake, but to demonstrate his willingness to defend America, its allies, our shared interests, and our common values against those who threaten them".
