Brexit issue : United Kingdom faces leadership crisis

British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel at a meeting in Berlin last week

Mrs May claimed Labour would "never deliver" a strong economy, adding the Opposition's policies would lead to a "run on the pound, capital flight and the loss of jobs for working people up and down this country".

"If we don't pull together, we risk the election of Jeremy Corbyn as prime minister", one cabinet minister said, summarising what was said at the meeting. The letter, posted to social media by talkRADIO's Ross Kempsell, attacks Theresa May for her delivery of Brexit.

With less than nine months until Britain is due to leave the EU, May has been wrestling with how to enact Brexit without jeopardizing business with the world's biggest trading bloc of 27 countries whilst forging new global deals.

A rebellion by Eurosceptic backbenchers could wipe out Mrs May's majority when the bill returns to the House of Commons on Monday, in what would be the first significant test of strength for her Brexit critics.

"I wish them both well as they return to the backbenches to serve their constituents".

Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May speaks to assembled guests, as she hosts a reception to mark the 70th anniversary of the NHS, at 10 Downing Street, in central London on July 4, 2018. "We need to engage with Europe as friends and partners, but they need to know that we are prepared to leave without a deal if need be".

But former Conservative leader William Hague warned party rebels that voting against the Prime Minister's final deal could result in Brexit being indefinitely delayed or halted altogether. "Something has got to give". He stood down from the council in 2006 and in May 2008 he was elected to the London Assembly for the seat of West Central, at which point mayor of London Boris Johnson made him deputy mayor for Policing.

And International Trade Secretary Liam Fox was seen to shake his head and mouth the word "No" when reporters asked him on his way out of Cabinet whether he was about to quit. "The Prime Minister can't deliver Brexit and has zero authority left".

Gove told British television station ITV he was "absolutely not" planning to resign.

May, who has tried to keep calm and carry on, said in a tweet that it was a "productive Cabinet meeting" and that she was "looking forward to a busy week". "And sending our best wishes to @England for tomorrow!"

Mrs May indicated the Cabinet had agreed upon a collective position on its Brexit stance at the Chequers meeting on Friday and would seek a model similar to the single market for goods and the "facilitated customs arrangement".

Mrs Merkel declined to be drawn on Mrs May's Brexit proposals, saying that the remaining 27 European Union countries will determine a common response after they are set out in a White Paper on Thursday.

In comments likely to alarm Mrs May, Trump acknowledged the "turmoil" facing her government but said he was nevertheless looking forward to "an interesting time" when he visits the United Kingdom later this week.

He told BBC's Andrew Marr Show: "Should the Article 50 deal that the Prime Minister brings back be voted down or worse there's no deal, then that's a very serious situation and we're going to have to confront it when we get there and that Parliament must decide what happens next".

Stocker said: "Farming and the environment need stability at this stage, and they will be key industry and public interest areas as we go through future changes that will need special consideration rather than fit into the standard mould".
