What Happened to Apple's AirPower Wireless Charger?

Complex and bug-prone the AirPower may be, but Gurman says it's finally nearing a release, with Apple now aiming to get in on shelves "before or in September".

Apple is hoping to release the AirPower in September after internally delaying its launch from June, Bloomberg is reporting, citing people who claim to have knowledge of the company's plans.

The Apple AirPower stands out for being the only Qi wireless charger that can charge up to three devices simultaneously.

Apple originally stated that the AirPower would be released sometime in 2018, but it didn't give an exact date. Apparently, the output of the charge was complicated by a technical component.

We first saw the AirPower during Apple's September 2017 iPhone event.

China blasts Trump's new tariff threat, warns it will retaliate
China retaliated by raising import duties on $34 billion worth of American goods, including soybeans, electric cars and whiskey. The Trump tariffs , which the USA government says are punishment for intellectual property theft, will be enacted in two waves.

'Hopefully, Apple learns a lesson to only announce products that are for sure shipping soon or immediately after announcing, ' Ben Bajarin, analyst at Creative Strategies, told Bloomberg. It would make it a full year since the product was first announced. The device is a white pad that would allow you to place your Apple devices anywhere on it and wirelessly charge them. Hopefully such a powerful friend on the production line will help Apple make good on its "2018" release window.

Wireless battery chargers don't usually require processors and operating system software to operate. The company reportedly discussed the possibility of doing this with the iPhone X, but decided that the charging speeds using wires are still much better than what's possible with wireless charging. The wireless synchronisation of AirPods and the Watch with Apple's other devices are compelling features. For many, AirPower was a logical addition to Apple's lineup of accessory.

In respect to overheating, one of Apple's patents regarding this issue surfaced. The device is supposed to come out this year, and Apple initially planned on releasing it this month.

Apple's attention to detail is legendary, so I'm not surprised to see this type of delay for a new product. Announced in 2014, it was marketed to go on sale in early 2015. However, wireless charging is still in its nascent stage and nowhere near as fast as wired chargers, so a delay in the AirPower launch may not necessarily affect the company right now.
