Technology helps France beat gritty Australia 2-1 in Group C

After a disjointed first half, the game sparked into life shortly after the interval as referee Andres Cunha awarded a penalty to France after consulting VAR and deciding that Josh Risdon had clipped Griezmann just inside the area.

Goal-line technology also helped France win the match after Paul Pogba's 81st minute effort was ruled to have crossed the line.

"He was standing very close to the moment of the penalty, and he said directly, "Go (play) on".

Griezmann hit a powerful shot that left Ryan stranded, four minutes before Jedinak then sent France goalkeeper Hugo Lloris the wrong way to put the teams level following Umtiti's clumsy foul.

"I got a lot of reactions, lets say from 10 people, seven say a penalty and three say no penalty". "We were not quick enough on the pitch, offensively we were not as good as we can be".

Oprah Winfrey Enters a Multi-Year Partnership with Apple

After a balanced first half in the Group C match at the Kazan Arena, France was awarded the first penalty following a VAR review.

Pogba, whose victor was aided by goal-line technology after his strike clipped a defender and bounced off the underside of the bar, told TF1: "It is the World Cup - there are no small teams". Nobody expected we could play this way against France.

Samuel Umtiti was involved in one of the most weird moments at the World Cup so far in France's match against Australia.

It was imperative Australia played with a solid foundation at the back, particularly in the opening exchanges of the game. It was an inspiring, tough showing from the Aussies, who gave the French team all they could handle and giving Didier Deschamps something to think about entering the next match. Everybody could see today that this is a different team and one of the most positive things also is that we showed guts and that we could be ourselves.

Australia had frustrated Les Bleus for almost an hour of their Group C game, with goalscoring opportunities limited.
