Trump declares an end to the North Korean nuclear threat

Trump says that North Korea 'no longer a nuclear threat'

Radio host Rush Limbaugh said the mainstream media wanted President Donald Trump's summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to fail, and they were caught completely off guard by the success of the meeting.

Responding to a question, Trump said denuclearisation of Korean Peninsula does not mean that the nuclear umbrella that the USA has over South Korea is on the table of negotiations.

Trump's comment on suspending joint exercises with Seoul have caught South Korea's Defense Ministry and US forces in Korea off guard.

Trump said he and Kim also negotiated certain points after signing the document, including agreeing that North Korea will get rid of certain ballistic missile sites, among "various other things".

But the United States president trumpeted the outcome as a "deal" with North Korea and vowed there would be "no more rocket launches, nuclear testing or research!" "No longer - sleep well tonight!" the president wrote. In his media briefing in Singapore on Tuesday, Trump mentioned ending the drills, which he described - in language similar to that used by North Korea - as "provocative", saying it would save the the USA money.

The Japanese government has officially listed 17 people as abductees, but there are strong suspicions that dozens more citizens were snatched to train Pyongyang's spies in the Japanese language and culture.

When asked whether Trump was jumping the gun by declaring victory, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told reporters: "This president wants North Korea to completely denuclearize so obviously that has to be complete, verifiable and irreversible". But we're not gonna play the war games. Trump said: "That's true".

"From now on, there will be various kinds of bargaining toward a Japan-North Korea summit", the unnamed official said.

Trump and Kim Jong Un have now parted ways, since Singapore is 12 hours ahead of Eastern Daylight Time, and are heading home, but here's a round up of the biggest moments from their time together.

However, tropical-storm-force wind gusts (over 39 mph) could begin affecting southern Baja California as soon as Wednesday. National Hurricane Center said Bud had maximum sustained winds of 115 miles per hour (185 kph) Monday morning.

"You know, he can have a membership at Trump National", Graham said on CBS, referring to Trump's golf course. According to the Washington Post, North Korea's definition of "denuclearization" is different from Trump's.

"I find that question insulting and ridiculous and frankly ludicrous", Pompeo said, arguing they are implied.

Trump's comment that the threat was now over was unlikely to provide relief to Japan and South Korea, both home to large US military presences, as both expressed concerns over his decision to halt the military exercises, which Pyongyang has long claimed are preparations for an invasion.

And Kim's media machine told the North Korean public how Mr Trump has reciprocated the offer of Kim visiting the USA in a state visit. "And the issue is now, where do we go from here - whether we can maintain momentum from the summit and start putting flesh on those bones".

Trump returned to Washington, declaring on Twitter "There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea", even though the agreement he signed with Kim does not spell out how Pyongyang will dismantle its nuclear weapons program.

Trump, who has frequently sparred with the media, was also unsparing in his criticism of television coverage of the summit, singling out two networks for scorn.

"It's not a burden onto the American taxpayer to have a forward deployed force in South Korea", Ms Graham told CNN.

Despite the lack of detail, or binding terms in the joint statement agreed with Kim - which has alarmed a majority of observers of the nuclear standoff - Trump struck a resolutely bullish tone.
