Monty Python's Terry Gilliam reportedly suffers stroke

Terry Gilliam suffers stroke ahead of verdict on his troubled film ‘The Man Who Killed Don Quixote

Indiewire reports, via sources close to the production, that Amazon Studios, which was in line to distribute the movie, will now not handle the U.S. release of the film.

Gilliam worked on his Don Quixote saga for almost 20 years during which time production was sidelined by weather and budget woes, as well as an ailing leading man in Jean Rochefort.

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote stars Adam Driver, Jonathan Pryce, Stellan Skarsgård, Olga Kurylenko, Joana Ribeiro, Óscar Jaenada, Jordi Mollà, Sergi Lopez and Rossy de Palma.

The veteran filmmaker suffered a stroke in London over the weekend (05-06May18) and was unable to attend Monday's court hearing in Paris relating to the film's presence at Cannes, according to French newspaper Nice-Matin. "May 19. Thanks for all your support", Gilliam's post said.

It has been a very, very long road for Gilliam and this film, and with Amazon poised to pull its distribution, it's become clear that the road's still not quite over.

Paulo Branco, from Alfama Films Production, applied for a court injunction to keep the movie from being shown on 19 May (18), the closing night of the annual French film festival, after claiming his firm owned the rights to the movie, which he exited as producer before cameras began rolling.

Comcast planning all-cash Fox bid?
After months of negotiation, they settled on a $ 52 billion acquisition , where Disney would acquire most of Fox's assets. On Monday, Reuters reported that Comcast (cmcsa) is getting its ducks in a row to scupper the deal, one way or another.

Gilliam's lawyer, Benjamin Sarfaty, said banning the film from Cannes is "not justified".

The producer won a separate case over the broader rights to the film past year (17), a verdict Gilliam has appealed.

"He said: 'The spell is broken". So while The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is finished and will screen, its future is still very much in doubt.

It took Terry Gilliam 20 years to finally make The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, and now the film has hit another major setback ahead of its planned world premiere.

Gilliam's fans celebrated the court ruling by uploading to his Twitter page some of the surreal animations he made for 1970s TV comedy Monty Python's Flying Circus and live actions clips, including members of the Spanish Inquisition rejoicing.
