Starbucks: Philadelphia arrests of black men 'reprehensible'

Racial profiling, or just enforcing bathroom rules?

"Further, it seems that the men who were ultimately arrested in this incident may not have been legally justified to be in Starbucks once they refused to make a purchase and did not leave when asked by both the store management and police". And the Philadelphia police commissioner, who is under fire for defending his officers, said the policemen never wanted to arrest them.

"It was certainly a reckless move on their part", Kreitzer tells TIME in reference to the Starbucks store manager who called the police.

Starbucks' CEO now promises reform. Good luck with that!

Johnson is in Philadelphia and repeated his desire to meet with the two men.

"When I walk in and I don't order anything and I'm dressed like this, no manager is calling the police on me", Cohen told CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller. The Democratic mayor says they are going to make sure "this doesn't happen again". They were trying to avoid an ugly outcome as they initially interacted with the men, who were rightly angered by their treatment by the Starbucks manager and refused to leave. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes. And third, to reassure you that Starbucks stands firmly against discrimination or racial profiling.

Police haven't released the names of the men who were arrested and later released after the district attorney's office said there was lack of evidence that a crime had been committed. Police took the men into custody in an encounter that was captured on video that went viral over the weekend, sparking national outrage, even among the most faithful Starbucks customers. On top of this unfair treatment, police were reportedly called, though they made no arrest.

The apology speaks for itself, but the explanation of the call, er, doesn't.

Markle's engagement photos , it brings me such joy to be able to witness again, the next chapter in this wonderful love story". A third photo was later released by the palace featuring a candid shot of the couple take on the day of the photoshoot.

Calls for a boycott continued Monday as Starbucks' CEO took to television to apologize, saying he is going to institute "unconscious bias" training for managers. "The arrest of the two men created a unsafe body blow to a brand that typically takes bows, not punches".

According to some experts, questions of who is welcome at Starbucks and who is excluded are an ongoing problem for the brand.

Officers responded and asked the men three times "politely to leave the location because they were being asked to leave by employees because they were trespassing". The attorney for the two men, Lauren Wimmer, told the Philadelphia Inquirer she received word that the two were being released from custody at 12:30 a.m. Friday, almost eight hours after the initial 911 call. They also demanded the arresting officers be fired, too.

Johnson has been on morning talk shows, visited Philadelphia and actually suggested speaking with the arrested men to hash this shit out, Obama Beer Summit-style, to which they have agreed.

"I'd like to apologize to them in person", he said.

Ross said that as an African-American man he was acutely aware of implicit bias. I am still not convinced that the men had to be arrested to solve the matter.

Abdul-Aliy Muhammad, one of the protest's organizers and co-founder of the Black and Brown Workers Collective, told AP that the goal of the demonstration was to keep that Starbucks from "making any money". The company has no choice other than to struggle - for as long as necessary - to get this right.

After meeting with Starbucks officials, including its CEO, Kenney said he believes the company will cooperate with the city's probes.
