Paris-Roubaix: Michael Goolaerts dies after crash

Unfortunately, 22-year-old Belgian cyclist Michael Goolaerts fell victim to these incredibly hard circumstances during this afternoon's race.

Belgian cyclist Michael Goolaerts has died after suffering a cardiac arrest during Sunday's Paris-Roubaix, his team have announced.

There were concerns over Belgian rider Michael Goolaerts, who was taken to a hospital after receiving CPR treatment on the side of the road after a crash. "He passed away Sunday evening at 22.40 in Lille hospital", his team said in a statement.

This is published unedited from the ANI feed.

Goolaerts was in his fourth season with Belgian outfit Veranda's Willems-Crelan in two spells.

Goolaerts was taking part in a race dubbed the "Hell of the North" because of the hard terrain it covers when he was involved in the crash.

It is his second win in the "monuments" - cycling's five most prestigious one-day races - following his Tour of Flanders victory in 2016.

New Jersey couple awarded $37 million in talcum powder case
Johnson & Johnson maintains that its products are not carcinogenic and have never contained traces of asbestos fibers. A jury awarded $30 million to a man who was diagnosed with mesothelioma after using talcum powder for decades.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends now", the team said.

Sagan countered an attack from Greg Van Avermaet of Belgium with 55 kilometers left and went solo to catch Dillier and the last members of an early breakaway that formed about 200 kilometers from the finish.

The pair exited the final major cobble section of the Carrefour de l'Arbre with 15km remaining with a minute's lead.

Terpstra, whose Quick-Step team had been expected to dominate the race, said nothing could have been done to stop the Slovak.

The 257-kilometer race is also known as the "Hell of the North" because of its treacherous profile including 54.5 kilometers of cobblestones spread over 29 sectors.

"Peter Sagan was just too good today".
