Jeremy Corbyn tells MPs to back opt-out organ donation bill

Theresa May

Proposals for a change in the law on organ donation in England to ensure people have to opt out of being donors have passed a significant milestone in Parliament.

The proposals brought forward by backbench Labour MP Geoffrey Robinson have won the support of both Theresa May and Jeremy Corbyn which means they will nearly certainly become law. Scotland is now looking at a similar system. An opt-out system has already been introduced in Wales by the devolved Welsh government.

Campaigners for the change say a policy of deemed consent could save up to 500 lives a year.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn urged MPs during the debate to support the Bill, while the Health Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, was also present on the Government's front bench during Ms Doyle-Price's closing remarks.

More than 23 million people are on the organ donor register in the United Kingdom and donation rates hit a record high past year.

Aishatu Abdullahi, a student at the school, was among those who escaped on foot and spent the night hiding in an abandoned house. They also abducted three men as they fled along Geidam axis, Yobe Commissioner of Police, Sumonu Abdulmaliki, told journalists.

"We have some of the lowest rates of consent for organ donation in western Europe, low family rates of consent being one of the major barriers". In effect, that prevents one third of available organs from being used.

Labour and Conservative MPs put aside party differences to sort out the Bill. There are now 115,016 people on that national organ transplant waiting list.

Tory MP Peter Heaton-Jones said that Mr Ball's decision to allow Keira's organs to be used should serve as an "inspiration" to us all, adding that "more organs means more saved lives".

Today is a big day for the topic of organ donation in England, because a debate took place in the House of Commons regarding the topic of an opt-out system - also known as "presumed consent".

"I can only begin to imagine the emotional rollercoaster that families and people waiting for organs must go through in the long and trying wait, which can be years".
